DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER
Bucharest
Metalworking, fabrication of metal products and structures
THE COMPANY
Our client is one of the oldest locally-owned metalworking companies, renowned for their specialization in the design and fabrication of metal products and structures. With an impressive portfolio of services, they manage the entire manufacturing cycle—from conception, engineering, and design to prototype testing and the fabrication of primary parts, all the way to assembly and complex product verifications such as dimensional measurements, anti-corrosion checks, and structural integrity tests. Their products serve a wide range of industries, including industrial, telecommunications, railway and road infrastructure, lighting, warehousing, and construction, for both the domestic market and exports (chiefly to the European Union).
As the company prepares for a generational transition, the Owner and General Manager, who is approaching retirement, is actively planning to hand over leadership to the second generation. His children, still young, require a strong, experienced management team to ensure continued growth and success. To support this transition, we are seeking a highly competent Deputy General Manager to assist in leading the company through its next phase.
THE ROLE
The Deputy General Manager will be a key strategic partner to the Owner and General Manager, tasked with driving the operational efficiency, commercial success, and long-term growth of the company.
This role involves leading operations, sales, and business development, with a clear focus on maintaining the company’s standards of excellence while driving growth in both local and international markets and a particular emphasis on identifying new market segments, products, and clients to expand the company’s portfolio. A strong background in metalworking and mechanical engineering, coupled with a proven ability to manage production, lead commercial negotiations, and secure new contracts, is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Growth: Lead efforts to explore and penetrate new market segments and develop innovative products that align with market demands.
- Business Development: Identify, target, and secure new clients and contracts to drive the company’s growth, both domestically and internationally.

- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor department heads across production, technical, and commercial functions to maintain operational harmony and high performance.
- Client and Partner Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, suppliers, and strategic partners, to ensure long-term business success.
- Innovation and Process Improvement: Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production methods, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
- Generational Transition: Support the Owner in ensuring a smooth transition to the next generation of leadership, preparing the company for sustained growth under new leadership.
THE CANDIDATE
The successful candidate profile:
- Industry Expertise: At least 15 years of experience in metalworking, industrial production, or a related field, with a deep understanding of the industry’s trends and regulatory environment.
- Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to lead successful commercial negotiations, with a strong network and experience in identifying and securing new business opportunities.
- Strategic Leadership: A visionary leader with a track record of growing companies by identifying new market opportunities and developing new products.
- Technical Knowledge: A solid background in mechanical engineering, with the ability to understand and oversee complex manufacturing processes and product development.
- Team Management: Strong leadership skills with experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving high performance across departments.
- Market Expansion: Experience in developing business both domestically and internationally, particularly in European markets.
- Languages: Fluency in Romanian & English; additional languages are a plus.
ATTRACTIVE ASPECTS:
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a well-established company at a transformative stage.
