Energy & Renewables

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
For our client, a fast-growing, privately owned energy platform with a rapidly expanding footprint across energy supply, trading, renewable energy and energy services, we are looking for a Chief Financial Officer to join the executive leadership team and become a key strategic partner to the shareholder and CEO.
The company operates across several interconnected areas of the energy value chain, including electricity and gas supply, energy trading, renewable energy aggregation and balancing, asset management and technical services, as well as investments in renewable generation and energy storage.
Following a period of significant growth, the business is entering a new stage of development: regional expansion, further investment in energy infrastructure, increased institutionalisation and preparation for potential access to international capital markets, including a possible future IPO.
This is therefore not a traditional Finance Director role.
The new CFO will work directly with the shareholder, CEO and executive team and will have a dual mandate: to remain very close to the economics and risks of the business while building the financial infrastructure, governance and organisational capabilities required for the company’s next stage of growth.
THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the shareholder and executive team, the CFO will assume overall responsibility for the financial leadership, governance and economic performance of the company and its future regional operations.
The mandate combines strategic financial leadership with significant hands-on involvement in the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acting as strategic and financial adviser to the shareholder, CEO and executive leadership team;
- Translating the company’s growth ambitions into a clear financial strategy, funding plan and capital allocation framework;
- Leading budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning and performance management across business lines, entities and investment projects;
- Creating clear visibility over profitability by business line, customer, contract, portfolio and project;
- Providing strong financial oversight of energy supply, trading and renewable portfolio economics, including margins, balancing costs, price and volume exposure, collateral and counterparty risk;
- Leading treasury, liquidity planning, working capital management, banking relationships and financing facilities;
- Developing an integrated financial risk framework covering market, liquidity, credit, FX, counterparty and trading exposures;
- Leading the financial evaluation and financing of investments in renewable generation, storage and energy infrastructure;
- Supporting potential acquisitions, partnerships and regional expansion;
- Ensuring robust IFRS and statutory reporting, consolidation, tax compliance, auditability and internal controls;
- Defining the future finance operating model and determining the appropriate balance between internal capabilities and outsourced services;
- Leading the evolution from fragmented and largely manual processes towards an integrated ERP, finance and data architecture;
- Building and developing the finance organisation required to support a larger and increasingly international business;
- Strengthening Board and shareholder reporting and progressively establishing institutional-investor-grade governance, controls and financial reporting;
- Building the financial infrastructure required for future external financing and potential international capital-markets readiness.
THE CANDIDATE
We are looking for an accomplished finance executives with approximately 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience gained in complex, regulated, capital-intensive or transaction-intensive businesses.
Relevant backgrounds may include energy, utilities, power and gas trading, renewable infrastructure, commodities, oil & gas or other businesses characterized by significant liquidity, market-risk and capital-allocation requirements.
The strongest candidates will combine several of the following:
- Broad financial leadership across controlling, treasury, financing, planning, reporting, accounting and governance;
- Strong commercial understanding and the ability to connect financial analysis with business decisions and value creation;
- Exposure to energy supply, trading, wholesale markets, PPAs, price and volume risk, balancing, collateral or customer credit risk being highly relevant;
- Strong treasury, liquidity, working-capital and banking experience;
- Sound IFRS knowledge and experience with group reporting and consolidation;
- Exposure to project finance, investment modelling, infrastructure investment, M&A or capital allocation;
- Experience supporting significant growth, transformation, international expansion or the professionalisation of an entrepreneurial organisation;
- Experience with ERP/finance transformation, automation and the development of stronger management information;
- International exposure and experience operating within group structures;
- Exposure to institutional investors, capital markets, bond issuance, due diligence, listed-company environments or IPO preparation being particularly valuable.
LEADERSHIP STYLE
The successful candidate will need to be equally credible in a Board discussion and in the operational detail of the business.
We are particularly interested in executives who are:
- Strategic and commercially minded;
- Financially rigorous and comfortable making decisions in volatile environments;
- Independent enough to challenge the shareholder, CEO or commercial organisation constructively when risk, liquidity or returns do not support a decision;
- Entrepreneurial, pragmatic and hands-on;
- Able to introduce discipline and governance without creating unnecessary bureaucracy;
- Comfortable building structure where processes and systems are still developing;
- Strong team builders who can determine what capabilities should be developed internally and what can continue to be effectively outsourced;
- Credible with banks, investors, auditors and other external stakeholders.
Fluent Romanian and English are required.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity to join one of Romania’s fast-developing independent energy platforms at an inflection point in its evolution.
The CFO will not inherit a finished corporate finance infrastructure. The mandate is to build it.
For the right executive, the attraction lies in the opportunity to work directly with the shareholder and CEO, influence major commercial and investment decisions, shape the finance organisation from the ground up and play a central role in the company’s transition from a successful entrepreneurial business toward a regional, institutionally investable energy platform with potential international capital-markets ambitions.
The position is based in Bucharest.
We welcome resumes or / and recommendations in English until latest FRIDAY 11.09.2026.
If, this opportunity does not interest you, but you would like to recommend a member of your professional network who might have the right profile and a potential interest in pursuing it, please don’t hesitate to forward them this ad or directly send us their coordinates.
Please consider that only the suitable candidates will be contacted for interview, but we appreciate everyone’s interest in our projects and would like to keep in touch for future projects.
